No parece que sean muy amigos de la industria musical... ¿es así? ¿creen que el hecho de no tener un contrato con una discográfica les puede situar en desventaja con respecto a otras bandas en lo referente a la promo? Le preguntan a la vocalista y guitarrista Ritzy quien responde:

No estoy de acuerdo. No tengo nada en contra de la industria, no hemos sido golpeados por ninguna diabólica maquinación del sistema, y nuestro equipo, las disqueras con las que trabajamos, trabajan bien, y controlan. Depende del camino que elijas y saber lo que es importante para uno como grupo. No nos comparo con otros grupos y sus rollos, uno nunca sabe qué piensa y qué le sucede a los demás, especialmente en la industria como esta que gira en torno a percepciones. Lo importante para mí es que nos emocionamos con nuestras canciones, al componerlas y tocarlas, que podemos salir a defenderlas en un escenario y que nuestros seguidores crezcan con nosotros."

THE PSYCHEDELIC SCENE (1967-69 V.A)

"Compilatorio cortesía del baúl de Deram Records que fue un subsello de Decca Records activo, durante su primera etapa, entre 1966 y 1979, aunque posteriormente fue reactivado en varias ocasiones. Inicialmente, fue creado con el objetivo de albergar las nuevas grabaciones realizadas con la técnica Deramic Sound (de ahí su denominación), que permitía otorgar mayor espacio a cada pista y, por tanto, favorecía una sensación más suave para el oído. Precisamente por eso las primeras referencias de este filial fueron de música lounge/ easy listening, pues era la que más fácilmente podía beneficiarse de este progreso técnico. Sin embargo, pronto cambió de dirección estilística acogiendo las grabaciones de artistas de jazz y folk alternativo, como Mike Gibbs, John Surman o Mike Westbrook. La intención de Decca era que Deram Records compitiera con Island Records, Harvest Records (de EMI) y Vertigo Records (de Philips Records), pero los resultados se quedaron lejos de lo esperado. Eso sí, editó la música de Cat Stevens (antes de que firmara por Island Records) y el primer álbum de David Bowie, además de obtener éxitos como A Whiter Shade Of Pale, de Procol Harum, y I Can Hear The Grass Grow y Night Of Fear, ambos de The Move."

VELVETT FOGG - VELVET FOGG (1969 - UK)

Banda de culto de la psicodélia británica formada específicamente en la ciudad de Birmingham , el mito dice que en sus actuaciones en vivo contaban con una gogodancer y que Tony Iommi paso fugazmente por su formación durante el año 1968 pero pronto los abandonaría para inmortalizarse como guitarrista de BLACK SABBATH.

Velvett Fogg solo cuenta con un disco homónimo de estudio lanzado el año 1969 y reeditado por SANCTUARY RECORDS el año 2002, las chicas de cuerpos pintados causaron polémica en la época y el LP contaba con una nota de John Peel que decía "there is a lot of good music on this record. Remember Velvett Fogg - you will hear the name again."

El disco "Delay" de Julia Kent es una propuesta experimental en la que su chelo, enriquecido una y otra vez con pistas superpuestas, dialoga con un universo de sonidos concretos, creando una atmósfera que evoca viajes, tránsitos y paisajes repletos de emociones personales. Todo inspirado en aeropuertos, en ser nómada, en ir de ciudad en ciudad y los mundos privados que nos creamos para evitar la desorientación del viaje.

"Yo me interesé mucho por el proceso de viajar: no es la cuestión de la llegada o la partida, sino el tiempo entre medias, donde te encuentras en un estado de transición, en el limbo. Cuando estás entre dos mundos tú creas tu propio y privado mundo emocional. Además de mis propias experiencias mientras he viajado he estado influenciada por algunas artes visuales, en concreto por la pieza de video “Threshold to the Kingdom” de Mark Wallinger y por las fotografías sobre aviones y aeropuertos de Fischli y Weiss."

"Minimalista proyecto plagado de hermosas canciones que nos introducen en un cálido letargo y que llevan al oyente a una isla de infinita quietud. PANTALEIMON es el proyecto de la británica Andrea Degens, generalmente en vivo se acompaña por James Blackshaw, quien tiene su propia carrera en solitario y cuya guitarra acústica de doce cuerdas hace de perfecto apoyo a su dulce voz.

Aunque Andrea Degens, editó su primer disco "Trees Hold Time" en 1999, un largo receso marcó la llegada de los precursores "Mercy Oceans" y "Heart of the Sun" en 2007 y 2008 respectivamente. Es relevante destacar que la voz tras Pantaleimon ha grabado con los Dirty Three en Horse Stories, y también con Wire, aparte de compartir escenario con gente como Antony & the Johnsons."

"El punto de partida de Jovenabuelo se realiza con el encuentro musical de Lulu (Sebastián Rivera, Bajo) y Kalamar (Ignacio Cea, Guitarra), quienes al tener una amiga en común, se conocen y luego de descubrir que sus intereses musicales eran similares, deciden juntarse a hacer música a fines del año 2004. En ese primer encuentro galáctico nace inmediatamente, de principio a fin, la canción "Kalamar Lulu".

Posteriormente deciden invitar a Pure (Javier Nacif, Teclados, Sintetizadores, Guitarra, Melódica y Acordeón), compañero de Kalamar desde tiempos inmemoriales, el ingrediente restante para completar la receta "Budin de Kalamar Lulu con Pure" ). será Javier Hechenleitner (Budin) baterista conoce a Kalamar en la Universidad siendo los dos estudiantes de Ingeniería en Sonido. Es gracias a esta integración que nace "Siete". Toman también su forma definitiva todos los temas que pasarían a formar parte del disco debut "Ya Listo Chao". Influenciado principalmente por el Indie Rock, el Noise, el Post Rock y otros experimentos sónicos, "Ya Listo Chao" se materializa a través de la auto-producción independiente que realiza la banda, siendo grabado, mezclado y masterizado por los mismos niños-ancianos, a lo largo del año 2006."

Compilación de piezas instrumentales de PUNK ROCK UNDERGROUND en donde, como su nombre lo anticipa, la reina indiscutida es la guitarra y los súbditos son indómitos músicos que han sobrevivido al paso y al peso de las tradiciones y tendencias.

"Pete Kember, también conocido como Sonic Boom, fue el cantante y guitarrista de los fenomenales Spacemen 3 por su parte Kurt Ralske estuvo en Ultra Vivid Scene, mientras 2 Nice Girls contaba con los aportes de Kathy Korniloff. Don Jeffrey Evans ha participado con Jon Spencer y The Vaháosles (Ampliamente recomendables). Wayne Coyne es el hombre de la guitarra en Flaming Lips, igual trabajo desempeña Joseph Donald Mascis, quien ademas es compositor de Dinosaur Jr.

Primero en Galaxie 500 y después en Luna, la guitarra de Dean Wareham es la continuación de este disco sin bajos, baterías o teclados, solo guitarras. En Unrest esta tarea era de Mark Robinson, Dave Rick con King Missile quien tuvo en Detachable Penis su "onehitwonder". En Babes in Toyland, la dueña de la guitarra es o fue Kat Bjellandy.

En un disco de este tipo no podían faltar Kim Gordon y Thurston Moore, orquestadores maestros del noise en Sonic Youth. Helios Creed aporta parte del trabajo en Chrome, otros participantes son Tom Hazelmeyer de Halo of Flies, Nick Salomón de Butthole Surfers. Entre otros grandes invitados cierran este disco Lee Ranaldo y el productor Steve Albini quien ha trabajado con artistas como Mono, Nirvana, PJ Harvey, Iggy & The Stooges o Pixies entre otros"

Trancemission, el potente combo psicodélico integrado por los experimentados - Rodrigo Astaburuaga en voz y guitarra (Casino, Camión, The Ganjas); Samuel Maquieira en guitarra y voces (The Ganjas, The Versions, Yajaira); Pablo Giadach en guitarra (Casino, The Ganjas); Pablo Rogers al bajo (Fangal, Camión), e Iván Molina (Emociones Clandestinas, Santos Dumont, Matorral) -, presenta “The Same”, adelanto de su primer álbum “5”, a publicarse en agosto de este año. Folk, hillbilly, gospel, blues y cajun convergen en estos 6 discos editados en 1952 por Harry Smith un neoyorquino excéntrico (más info sobre este personaje en el documental "The old, weird America") quien con un interés revisionista insaciable presenta al sello Folkway Records esta compilación con destacadas piezas de la música rural norteamericana grabadas entre 1927 y 1937.

Robert Johnson, Leadbelly, Carter Family y Blind Willie Johnson, son solo algunos de los integrantes de esta magnifica colección de 84 temas y subdividida por baladas, "música social" y canciones.

Producción considerada por la revista Rolling Stone como uno de los 500 discos mas importantes de la historia (puesto Nº216) e inspiración para un infinidad de músicos entre ellos Bob Dylan, Beck y Sonic Youth.

Blur puso el pasado domingo fin al Festival de Glastonbury 2009 con un concierto mítico en el que repasaron de forma extensa TODOS sus grandes éxitos haciendo las delicias de sus fans. Muchos de ellos que habían estado esperando esta reunión desde años vibraron con temas como Country House, Beetlebum o por supuesto Song 2. Muchos murieron en el intento tratando de tocar como este neo-bluesman que luce al estilo DAFT PUNK quien solo con una caja de ritmos, un bombo y una guitarra con slide sacude las tumbas de los críticos y fanáticos pertenecientes a los sectores conservadores del BLUES.

"Tiene cuatro álbumes publicados, el más reciente titulado ‘My shit es perfect, un par de cortos, un poemario y una performance en vivo que ejecuta con slide un demencial, micrófonos de teléfono, bombo panderetero y casco de moto.

Bob Log III es de Arizona. Las primeras señales de vida las dio en el seno de Mondo Guano, que hacían ruido artie. Luego saltó al combo de culto Doo Rag. Durante una gira con Ween, su socio dejó la banda y Bob Log cumplió el compromiso, no sin antes ponerse un casco para protegerse del público.

Bob Log III firmó con el sello Fat Possum, la reserva del blues arcaico contemporánea, y debutó con ‘School bus’ (98), opera prima con trece cortes, de ellos seis instrumentales. Se empecinó con su reválida, ‘Trike’ (99), que incluye si idiosincrásico ‘Clap your tits’, seguido por ‘Log Bomb’ (03)"

ESTA EN CANADÁ!

Alan Lomax (31 de enero de 1915 - 19 de julio de 2002, importante etnomusicólogo norteamericano, considerado como uno de los más grandes recopiladores de canciones populares del siglo XX) grabó y compiló este valioso material en una visita a la prisión estatal Parchman Farm de Mississippi en el año 1947.

Proveniente de África se instaura la tradición en la población de color norteamericana de cantar mientras trabajan, primero manifestado por los esclavos en los campos de cultivo y después en los trabajos forzados de la prisión. Alan Lomax junto a su padre John desde el año 1933 viajaban por las distintas cárceles del sur de Estados Unidos tratando de generar registros auditivos de esta invaluable costumbre que fueran perdurables a las continuas y sistemáticas reducciones de la población negra victimas de un sistema político, social y económico excesivamente racista.

La diferencia de este trabajo del año 1947 en relación a los registros anteriores conseguidos junto a su padre, es que la calidad de los equipos llegó a un nivel tecnológico aceptable que permitió a Alan conseguir un estándar de grabación digno de la pasión y la calidad musical que invertían los reclusos al ejecutar las melodías.

En ambos discos es posible escuchar entrevistas a los prisioneros quienes usaron sus seudónimos penitenciarios como nombres artísticos.

Según palabras de Alan Lomax: "Estas canciones pertenecen a la tradición musical que los Africanos trajeron al Nuevo Mundo, pero ellas son tan americanas como el río Mississippi. Ellas nacieron de la misma roca y tierra de este país, como manos negras rompieron el suelo, lo movieron y lo reformaron; como ríos trazados de sudor que fueron vertidos sobre la tierra azotada por el calor ardiente de cielos del Sur, están montadas sobre la pasión que esta lucha con la naturaleza ha traído en adelante. Ellas nos cuentan la historia de la cuadrilla de esclavos, del sistema de aparcería, del trabajo ilegal en el campo, de la cadena de esclavitud, de la penitenciaría."

"The Brian Jonestown Massacre es una auténtica banda de rock psicodélico original de San Francisco, California, liderada por el guitarrista y cantante Antón Newcombe (Quien juró solemnemente haberse topado con el fantasma de Brian Jones en su genial disco «Take it from the man» (1996), esa obra maestra que combinaba lo mejor de los Rolling Stones de «Their satanic majesties request» con la suciedad del garage rock americano.)

Brian Jonestown Massacre han sido esenciales en el desarrollo de la escena moderna de garage en EEUU y numerosos músicos de Los Angeles y San Francisco(mas de 40 en formaciones distintas) comenzaron su carrera formando parte de la banda, como Peter Hayes de Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

Mientras que en sus comienzos Newcomb estaba influido por la fase psicodélica de los Rolling Stones -de hecho su nombre viene de combinar el del guitarrista de los Rolling, Brian Jones, con el del líder de culto y pastor suicida Jim Jones- desde 2000 su trabajo se ha acercado más al “Shoegazing” británico de los años noventa y a la World Music, especialmente la de Oriente Medio y Brasil.

Entre sus hazañas está el haber protagonizado junto a los Dandy Warhols el documental DIG!, ganador del Premio del Jurado al Mejor Documental en el Festival de Sundance de 2004. Un trabajo que forma parte nada más y nada menos que de la colección permanente del Museo de Arte Moderno de Nueva York. Por ello desde su publicación el grupo no ha dejado de cosechar estupendas críticas y reconocimiento y entre otros momentos reseñables destaca su impresionante actuación en el Festival Coachella y Lollapalooza en 2005."

"Un año antes que uno de los sellos independientes más importantes y relevantes de la historia de la música quebrara, lanza su propia historia registrada en cuatro sendos discos llamados: Palatine - The Factory Story, un box set que reúne a todas las bandas que surgieron y se desarrollaron gracias a este sello.

Antología organizada de forma cronológica, y que cubre la historia de la Factory Records, quizás como una forma de auto-celebración oportuna y sabia ante su inminente caída. Son "cintas testigo" de la heterogeneidad que campeaba en Manchester entre 1979 y 1982. en donde se hacen presentes, desde el tecno orgánico de Orchestral Manouvers in the Dark (OMD), hasta las guitarras acuáticas de The Durutti Column. El hallazgo del álbum es sin dudas X-O-DUS, que en English black boys sueltan un reggae blanco, y rompen así con cualquier expextativa que pueda pesar sobre éste compilado. Un disco para comprender que el postpunk -por éstos días, más citado que escuchado- trasciende la figura de Joy Division, por más que en la portada aparezca, irónicamente, Ian Curtis."

ZERO A MARTIN HANNET STORY 1977-1991

"Martin Hannet (Manchester 1950/1991) fue uno de los más importantes productores que tuvo Inglaterra en los años posteriores a la explosión punk. Bajo su consola estuvieron parte importante del postpunk, new wave, alternativa y demás géneros degenerados que sonaron por Manchester y alrededores.

Zero (así lo llamaban) tenía un modo de trabajar que iba acorde a su persona: caótico, hedonista, compulsivo, con más características psicológicas que técnicas (histórico el momento en que le pidió al baterista de Joy Division que tocara “rápido, pero lento”), en general lograba lo que se proponía. Una gran mayoría de los grupos que pasaron por el sello Factory, en algún momento pasaron por las hábiles manos de Hannet, desde A Certain Ratio hasta los Buzzcocks, pasando por los ahora híper famosos U2 en 1980.

Con más vocación de experimentador que de productor Hannet trabajó duro en lograr lo que él quería de cada banda, sin preocuparse demasiado de la opinión de los músicos, lo que generaba continúos problemas a la hora de los resultados finales del proceso de grabación.

Todas las canciones compiladas tienen un hilo conductor en la mano de Hannet, se nota, desde los Happy Mondays, pasando por el ínclito Vini Reilly al frente de la Columna Durruti, su relación inicial con Joy Division y su continuación electrónica New Order, el tema (uno solo) que grabó con los U2 (al parecer, durante la grabación, se enteró de la muerte de Ian Curtis…) y muchas bandas más, en varios casos inhallables."
